Canopy Management
We carried out a very light peeling step (in the area of the leaf wall facing east and touching only the leaves under the first bunch) to increase air circulation in the bunch area and have favorable sanitary conditions. In addition to leaf removal, our vineyard staff is busy with the wrapping of the shoots or the technique of pruning the shoots. A long and demanding manual work but capable of avoiding stress on the vine and giving the grapes more balance with better maintenance of acidity, freshness and harmony.
The ripening of the grapes becomes more homogeneous, and by letting the vegetation continue to grow in the upper part, the bunch area remains more open and ventilated, reducing the risk of fungal diseases on the bunches. Logically, a mechanical pruning step would be faster and less costly, but our goal is to preserve quality! And you can only do it by starting from the vineyard!
