It’s flowering time!
Flowering has begun in the vineyards of San Polo. An unassuming but very important phase in the phenological cycle of the vine, the outcome of the upcoming vintage will depend on these flowers.
In this specific phenological phase the stamens (male organs that contain the anthers full of pollen) stretch out and push the calyptra (together with the petals) to detach, exposing the pistil (female organ) which leads to flowering. The vine has hermaphroditic flowers, which have both male and female organs and can therefore self-pollinate to allow for the formation of fruits (the future grape berries of the cluster).
